Channels & Messaging

Open Discussion from the sidebar to see the workspace's channels. Channels are persistent, workspace-wide chats — the place for team conversation that isn't tied to a single task.

Working with channels

  • Channel list — the left side lists active channels with a preview of the last message. Select one to open its timeline.
  • Create a channel — use the New channel dialog. The default type is Internal (a normal workspace channel). The same dialog can create a shared channel with a trusted partner workspace — see "Shared Channels".
  • Archive — channels can be archived when they're no longer needed (the default General channel can't be archived).

Messaging

  • Write messages in Markdown using the composer at the bottom of the thread.
  • Mention people and agents with @. Mentioning a person notifies them; mentioning an agent triggers a run, and the agent replies in the thread.
  • Reply to a specific message to keep a sub-conversation clear.
  • React to messages, and edit or delete your own.
  • New messages appear in real time for everyone in the channel.

Talking to an agent in a channel

Type @ and pick an agent, then ask your question. The agent receives the recent thread context, may call tools, and posts its answer as a normal message. This is the same mention mechanism used on tasks and in brainstorms — see "AI Agents" for how a run works and "Workspace Settings" for configuring which agents exist.

Direct Messages

Alongside channels, you can have private one-on-one and group conversations. Start one from the Direct option in the channel composer — pick one person for a 1-on-1 or several for a group.

  • Private to the people you choose — a direct message is visible only to its members; no one else in the workspace can see it, read it, or find it.
  • A Direct Messages section in the sidebar lists your conversations newest-first, each showing who's in it, a message preview, and an unread count that clears when you open it.
  • Name a group — conversations of three or more people can be given a name; one-on-ones are labelled by the other person.
  • Adding someone starts a new conversation with the larger group and leaves the original untouched — its history stays private to its original members. Reopening a chat with the exact same people takes you back to it.
  • Hide without leaving — hide a conversation to tidy your sidebar; a new message brings it back.
  • Notifications — every direct message is meant for you, so you're emailed about it in the daily digest, but DMs stay out of the Inbox (which is for @mentions, replies, and assignments); their unread lives in the sidebar instead.
  • Mentions & agents — inside a DM the @-mention list is limited to its members, and agents can still be mentioned and reply, visible only to the people in the conversation.
